Project Partner NextChem Participates in the Conference “Decarbonisation of the Steel Industry”

Yesterday, Gianluca Del Fabbro Arcopinto from our project partner NextChem participated as a speaker in the conference "Decarbonisation of the Steel Industry" organised by the Italian Association of Chemical Engineering (AIDIC), in collaboration with the Sapienza Università di Roma, Università di Pisa and RINA.

Steel production is a key sector in the Italian industrial landscape and its decarbonisation implies revisiting production processes. Industry and university met yesterday to analyse and define solutions that can be adopted to achieve the European Union's objectives to reduce emissions by 55% by 2030.

Gianluca displayed the vision, the steps and the goals of the INITIATE project, as well as a feasibility assessment for the first of a kind plant that will be built by April 2025 and produce urea solutions and blue ammonia.

NextChem, a MAIRE group company, provides sustainable technology solutions to make energy transition happen. Thanks to the extensive know-how of fertilizers, hydrogen, carbon capture, fuels, chemicals and polymers, NextChem creates innovative and sustainable processes from non-fossil feedstock. Within the INITIATE project, NextChem will be leading the WP2 focused on the design, engineering and construction of the pilot plant where the technology will be demonstrated. In particular, NextChem will be involved in the design and construction of the syngas purification section and ammonia conversion loop. The company will be also involved in the techno-economic assessment and commercial implementation of the INITIATE technology.
