Our first INITIATE Summer Schools 2023 kicked off today!

This morning, we kicked off our Summer School “Technology and Sustainability modelling for net-zero industries” with our keynote speaker Federico Benito Donà Climate and Energy Policy Manager at The European Steel Association (EUROFER).

During the first part of his presentation, Federico showed the unavoidable targets the iron and steel industry must reach by 2050 and the policy, economic, environmental and social aspects linked to them. The keynote speech continued with a presentation of the sector’s most promising investments in Europe to reach those targets and an open discussion with the participants.

The Summer School, co-organised by the INITIATE project and Radboud University, in collaboration with Politecnico di Milano, CO2 Value Europe, TNO and Stamicarbon, will take place from today until Friday at Radboud University in Nijmegen (NL) and will provide a robust and in-depth understanding of the economic and environmental assessment methods to address the decarbonisation of the energy-intensive industries, such as Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) and Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies.

Our summer school brought to Nijmegen 35 PhDs, MASc students and young professionals from top universities and companies across Europe. They will follow one week of full-time interdisciplinary education and group work exercises to deepen their understanding of economic and environmental assessment methods to address industrial innovations.

Dank u wel Radboud University for hosting this great learning opportunity and thank you to all the speakers who will alternate in lessons and group exercises of extraordinary quality over the next few days. We are pleased and proud that another INITIATE dissemination event is a smashing success!
