Brembana & Rolle offers its expertise in manufacturing the first Stami Green Ammonia Converter
The INITIATE project is grateful for Brembana & Rolle S.p.A.’s support, offering their specialised expertise in manufacturing the first Stami Green Ammonia Converter, which has been designed and supplied by our project partner, Stamicarbon.
The proprietary ammonia converter is the core of the downstream section of the INITIATE plant, designed to convert separated syngas into decarbonised ammonia. In this project, the ammonia product will be "aqua ammonia" and will be delivered as a DeNOx agent for a local power plant near the INITIATE pilot plant facility in Luleå, in northern Sweden. The newly designed proprietary equipment, crafted from specialised alloys, will undergo rigorous testing during our project's pilot campaigns scheduled for 2025.
Leveraging their expertise in Schio, Italy, Brembana & Rolle have contributed valuable manufacturing know-how to produce equipment capable of handling the varying feedstock supplied as off-gases from the steel industry.
Brembana & Rolle S.p.A. is an Italian Company leader in the design and manufacturing of customised equipment for Refineries, Fertilisers, Petrochemicals, Chemical, Power and Nuclear Plants and this cooperation has allowed the INITIATE consortium to utilise the experts in the field of high-pressure vessel manufacturing, highly specialised in manufacturing this piece of equipment capable of dealing with intermittency of feedstock.
The INITIATE project, funded by the Horizon 2020 EU program under grant agreement No 958318, will show how residual carbon-rich gas from the steel sector becomes a valuable feedstock for the chemical sector. At the same time, the cost of carbon capture is sustained, leading to a cost-efficient decarbonisation strategy. The TRL7 demonstration will combine the continuous production of N2+H2 and CO2 streams, with the innovative ammonia production as a precursor for urea based on re-used carbon.
