Webinar: The Himago Solid Adsorbent as a Robust Foundation of the INITIATE Technology

Kisuma Chemicals, in cooperation with CO₂ Value Europe, is pleased to invite you to the online webinar "The Himago Solid Adsorbent as a Robust Foundation of the INITIATE Technology", taking place on 1 December 2025 from 3-4 pm (CET).

This event is organised within the framework of the EU-funded INITIATE project and will highlight how the Himago solid adsorbent contributes to the performance and reliability of cutting-edge Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU).

CCU encompasses a range of technologies that capture carbon from industrial flue gases or directly from the atmosphere and convert it into useful products. Many of these technologies rely on specialised functional materials, such as sorbents and catalysts, which are engineered to optimise process conditions and improve efficiency.

The Himago solid adsorbent, developed and manufactured by Kisuma Chemicals (Netherlands), is one such material. It plays a critical role in enabling the high techno-economic performance and operational robustness of the Sorption-Enhanced Water-Gas Shift (SEWGS) technology, which facilitates the reactive separation of CO₂ and H₂ from industrial flue gases.

In an operational environment, INITIATE is showing how residual carbon-rich gas from the steel sector can be transformed into a valuable feedstock for the chemical industry. This not only enables a cost-efficient decarbonisation strategy but also reduces the overall cost of carbon capture. The project’s TRL7 demonstration will integrate the continuous production of N₂ + H₂ and CO₂ streams with an innovative ammonia synthesis process, serving as a precursor for urea production.

As a key partner in the project, Kisuma Chemicals is responsible for the development, performance, and long-term stability of the sorbent material.
