International Forum on Recent Cross-Cutting Developments in CCU/CCS

There is a growing global consensus that large scale CCU/CCS deployment is essential to achieving climate neutrality by 2050. In Europe, the publication of the EU’s Industrial Carbon Management Strategy in February 2024 highlights an increasing political commitment to advancing the research and deployment of these industrial decarbonisation technologies. Yet to achieve its net-zero targets, the EU will need to capture and store approximately 5.3 gigatonnes of CO2 by 2050. This presents an unprecedented challenge in both scale and urgency.

Over the past decade, the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programmes have funded extensive research on carbon capture and related technologies. This growing community of practice is making significant strides in addressing the challenges of CCU/CCS deployment and defining the path forward for Europe’s net-zero transition. This joint conference, bringing together ongoing CCU/CCS Horizon projects, will convene this vibrant community to share expertise and explore recent developments in the field.

The event is open only to participants from the consortia of the projects co-organising the forum (C4U, CaLby2030, HERCCULES, INITIATE, ConsenCUS, ELECTRA, EMPHATICAL, and EnCASE).
